General Wind Patterns
In the middle section of the earth, warm low pressure air rises and
moves towards the North or South Poles. The air cools down and comes
back down to the ground. The cool air that moves back toward the
equator and completes the circle is called the tradewinds.
The northeast and southeast tradewinds meet at the equator. This area
is called the doldrums because there is no wind.
