A jet airplane uses air and gas to push itself through the air. Jet airplanes have engines. The air comes in a hole in the front of the engine. The air is squeezed, like in a balloon. The squeezed air is mixed with gas and then burned. The air becomes very hot. The hot air starts moving very fast.
Remember, when you fill a balloon with air and let go, the air will
shoot out and make the balloon go up or forward. In a jet the hot air
goes out a hole in the back of the engine. This pushes the airplane
forward, just like a balloon.
