A jet airplane engine sucks air in the front and pushes it out the back. The jet flies forward or up. A jet cannot fly in space.

A rocket flies up into space. A rocket burns a special fuel or gas that pushes the rocket up and forward. A rocket cannot use air to help it fly. There is no air in space.

One way you can try this is to blow up a balloon. Then, hold the opening down and let go. The air comes out and down. The balloon goes up, just like a jet!
