New computer chips are being made that control all parts of the engine. The computer chip may change how much fuel and air are mixed so they will burn better. Or, the chip may change the shape of the inlet or exit nozzle for better aerodynamics.

Engineers are trying to make better engines. One idea is to "mix" the kinds of engines. One plane may have a turbojet, a ramjet and a rocket engine so that it can fly fast enough to go out into space!
