Airplanes carry many things. The two main things are passengers and cargo (freight). Today, passengers have movies, music, telephones and food served. There are also bathrooms and a kitchen (galley).

Today, airplanes are big and can fly very fast. Some airplanes have jet engines and some fly with propellers. They can carry hundreds of people. A pilot flys the airplane. Flight attendants help the passengers and serve food.

There are many airports all over the world. Some airports are very busy. Millions of passengers fly every year. Many companies send their products by airplane around the world.

Airlines try to keep people safe. They have seat belts, oxygen masks and life jackets for the passengers. The planes are built to be safe. Airplanes can fly very high and the people can still breathe. This is because they are in a special pressurized cabin.

Commercial aircraft have come a long way since the one minute flight of the Wright Brothers less than one hundred years ago.
