Church Business - May 16, 1902 The History: Wilbur writes Chanute that he has been taking care of a matter for his father, Bishop Wright. The brothers have not made drawings but will try and do one. Wilbur says, "... we make no pretense of being draftsmen". Wilbur tells Chanute that he and Orville are pleased Chanute may visit and tells Chanute they will make sure they are available whenever he visits.
The entire Wright family came to their father's aid over a church matter. A layperson had mishandled funds. Bishop Wright felt the person should be dismissed and possibly prosecuted. Other church members wanted to keep the matter quiet to avoid embarrassment and a scandal. Instead they tried to remove Bishop Wright from office. |
