No Money To Be Made In Flying - May 30, 1902 The History: Octave Chanute writes Wilbur that he will offer Augustus Herring a fee to rebuild the multiple-wing machine. He offers the plans of the two-surface (double-decker) machine to the Wrights, so that they may build (and own) this vehicle. Chanute still urges the brothers to be careful about disclosing information about their machine. He urges Wilbur, "I suggest that you take out a patent or caveat on those principles of your machines as are important, not that money is to be made by it, but to save unpleasant disputes ..."
