The History: Orville wrote in his personal diary that this was the coldest night the brothers had experienced so far. The winds blew at 6-8 meters/second [13-18 miles/hour].

The ponds, which formed around the camp from rain, had frozen. The water in their basin, which was used for washing, was frozen too. They gathered oak firewood and tried to stay warm; it was too cold to even work.
