The History: Wilbur and Orville's father, Bishop Milton Wright, had been traveling. Arriving back in Dayton at 6 PM, he "found Orville at home after some machinery for the boy's flying machine". The bishop noted in his personal diary, "They had the second time broken the shaft to the propeller."¹

Carry Kayler was a young women Katherine Wright employed to help with the Wright household. While Orville was home, Carry walked through the yard with a bag of groceries. Orville teased her saying "Carry, you feed me too much. I'll get to heavy to fly."²
