Have Courage! - Friday, May 15, 1903 The History: Chanute replies to Wilbur's letter of May 11th. He wants to share information he has learned on his trip overseas and has an anemometer for the brothers. [An anemometer is an instrument which measures the force or speed of the wind.] He would like to visit Wilbur and Orville after May 21st. Chanute tells Wilbur that the secretary of the Western Society of Engineers wants to set up a specific date, a Wednesday, for Wilbur to speak in Chicago. Regarding the Wright brothers reluctance to have their photograph taken, Chanute teases Wilbur and declares, "I am ashamed that men whom I have praised so highly in Europe should have so little courage to face a camera. Go and do so right away ... " Quotations from the book The Papers of Wilbur and Orville Wright, Volume 1 by M. McFarland.
