Sarcasm - Monday, July 27, 1903 The History: Octave Chanute responds to Wilbur's comments regarding the article Chanute has written for the French science journal, Revue Generale des Sciences. Chanute will make minor changes suggested by Wilbur. However, Chanute makes the following comment regarding Wilbur's request to remove any descriptions regarding the brothers' wing-warping mechanism (which allows their machine to turn in flight). "I was puzzled by the way you put things in your former letters. You were sarcastic and I did not catch the idea that you feared that the description might forestall a patent. Now that I know it, I take pleasure in suppressing the passage altogether. I believe however that it would have proved quite harmless as the construction is ancient and well known."
A rift is developing in the friendship between Chanute and the Wrights.
