"Different Gasses, Different Weights"

MATERIALS NEEDED

  • balance scale (or supplies to make one)
  • small paper bags
  • tape
  • baking soda
  • quart jar or graduated cylinder
  • vinegar

STEPS TO FOLLOW:

one Obtain or make a balance arm scale.

two Open the paper bags and, attach with tape, one to each end of the balance arm in an open, upright position.

three Balance the scale. What is inside of the bags? (Air)

four Prepare the carbon dioxide gas in the graduated cylinder.
Mix : 1 T. baking soda and 1/4 Cup vinegar
Cover the jar with a piece of paper( place on top) as the bubbles fizzle.

five When most of the fizzing stops, uncover the jar, and immediately pour the gas into one of the bags.( Be careful not to pour any vinegar into the bag.) Observe.
