MATERIALS NEEDED

2 liter soda bottle with cap

hammer

nail

STEPS TO FOLLOW:

one Fill the bottle with water and screw the cap on tightly.

two Hammer the nail into the bottle ( somewhere in the bottom 1/3)

three Hold the bottle upright and remove the nail.

four Observe.

five Uncap the bottle. What happens?

six Before the water level reaches the hole, tighten the cap back on the bottle. What happens?

seven Repeat, plugging the hole with your finger as the bottle is refilled. Make another hole. Observe.

eight Repeat, plugging both holes. Now try putting a hole close to the top of the bottle. What happens?
