Comparison of Bat and Bird Wings

MATERIALS NEEDED:
  • Pictures of megabats, microbats, and birds
  • Origami paper
  • Straws
  • Glue and scissors
STEPS TO FOLLOW:

one Go over the material in the Teacher Text with the students so that they have an understanding of how the bat's wing is designed in contrast to a bird's wing.

two Show the pictures of the megabats, microbats, and birds to the class. Discuss the differences and similarities of the wings of all three. Make sure that the students see the differing sizes of the wings before starting the project. Display the pictures in the class so that the students can refer to them as they make their wings.

three Pass out the artist's supplies and have the students use their creativity to design the wings of the bats and birds.

four After the students have made the wings have a discussion about the wing's platform of each.

five Have the students display their work.
