Flight Feather Functions

MATERIALS NEEDED:

2 flight feathers: 1 wing and 1 tail

STEPS TO FOLLOW:

one Hold the tail feather loosely by the shaft and move it slowly up and down. Observe. Look at the parts of the feather: the shaft, vanes and barb.

two Hold the wing feather loosely by the shaft and move it up and down. Observe the difference.

three Ask: What did you notice about the 2 feathers? How did they move? Did they move the same? Why or Why not.
