Slats and Flaps in Nature
WHY? question_guy
The flying ability of birds depends on many numerous factors. In this lesson we are concentrating on features on the wings of birds that create a greater potential for thrust. Because birds have mastered this, man has copied these features of flaps and slats in the building of airplanes. Without these keen observations by man there would not be the progress that we have in flight today. Maybe, just maybe, there are some other things that we will discover in the future from birds that will ignite our flight patterns even in a greater measure.
ASSESSMENT: Can the student communicate what they observed?

question_guy
four Student is able to communicate that the parts of a bird's wings has enhanced the abilities of flight for man. They are able to give a description of how the bird creates the slats and flaps, and how man has imitated this on aircraft.

three Student is able to communicate most of the reasons of how the parts of a bird's wings has enhanced the abilities of flight for man. They are able to give most of the description of how the bird creates the slats and flaps, and how man has imitated this on aircraft.

two Student is able to communicate some of the reasons how the parts of a bird's wings has enhanced the abilities of flight for man. They are able to give a limited description of how the bird creates the slats and flaps, and how man has imitated this on aircraft.

one Student is able to communicate one of the reasons how the parts of a bird's wings has enhanced the abilities of flight for man. They are able to give a partial description of how the bird creates the slats and flaps, and how man has imitated this on aircraft.
