Comparing Dinosaur Wings To Birds And Planes

MATERIALS NEEDED:
  • Library books on flying dinosaurs, birds, and airplanes
  • Notebook paper
  • Art paper, pencils, erasers, and rulers
STEPS TO FOLLOW:

one Go over the material in the Teacher Text with the class. Have a discussion on the material.

two Pass out the library books on the flying dinosaurs, birds, and airplanes. Have a discussion about them in relationship to their wings. Share the pictures together in class from the books. Also, discuss the area of probability of whether the flying dinosaurs were true fliers or just gliders.

three Pass out the notebook paper and have the students list as much information about the flying dinosaurs, birds, and airplanes in relationship to wing shape and ability and the similarities between the three of them. Have the students include information about the apparent ability of the flying dinosaurs to both glide and fly.

four Have the students share their information with one another.

five Then ask the students to draw a picture of the wing of a flying dinosaur, a bird, and an airplane and label the similarities between the three.

six Display the pictures on a bulletin board.
