Hold up the word "science" and ask the children if anyone knows what
the word means. (Explain to them that the world science means the art of
studying. It is a way of looking at everything around us that is living,
nonliving, and not living now).
Hold up the rest of the words one by one and discuss the meaning of
them.
Ask the children if dinosaurs are alive today? (Explain that
scientists observe everything - even things that are not alive today).
Have the children handle the models of the dinosaurs and share their
observations about them. Give each child ample time to discover what
they have observed. Encourage them, even if they think their observation
isn't as 'good' as someone else's. Explain to them that every
observation has significance in the area of science. (Observing means to
study something carefully)
Ask the children to draw their favorite feature of a dinosaur, or
dinosaur that they have observed.
