A Bouncing Ball

MATERIALS NEEDED

  • rubber bouncing balls
  • cement area, along with a wall for bouncing

STEPS TO FOLLOW:

one Discuss with the children the material in the Teacher Text, Science Concept, and Overview. Make sure that each of them has at least a partial understanding of the material.

two Proceed outside to the cement area with the wall where you will do the experiment together. Talk about safety with the children.

three Have one student at a time bounce the rubber ball on the cement several times and then on the wall several times. Make sure that each student has a turn.

four Return to the classroom and discuss together what has happened in relationship to Newton's Second Law of Motion, kinetic energy, collision, and absorption.

five As a class write a one page paper on the experiment.
