STEPS TO FOLLOW:

one Talk with the children about the material under the Teacher Text and Overview in this lesson. Make sure that each student has at least some understanding of Newton's Third Law of Motion.

two As a class attach the chain of rubber bands to the soft toy teddy bears.

three Stand in a big circle and have each student take a turn pulling on the toy bear and letting go (like a yo-yo).

four Have each student take a second turn and pull on the bear slowly and observe what happens. Then have each student pull on the toy bear quickly and see what happens.

five Discuss together what happened when they pulled on the toy bear with differing strengths. Help the children to see how this activity relates to the Third Law of Motion.
