WHY?
- Children will always be fascinated with motion. In this activity
they experience first hand a portion of Newton's First Law of Motion:
that an object that is moving forward tends to keep moving. This is
called inertia. But, also remember that in most real situations some
force is needed to keep an object moving because there is always some
drag or friction that acts to slow an object down.
ASSESSMENT: Can the student communicate
what they observed?
The student is able to communicate that it was hard to stop because
an object in motion tends to keep moving and that this is called inertia.
The student is able to communicate that it was hard to stop because
they were running fast.
The student is able to communicate that it was hard to stop at each
point.
The student is able to communicate that they ran fast from point to
point.
