WHY?
-
We take friction so much for granted, it is difficult to imagine
a world without it. The design of almost every kind of transportation
from automobiles to skateboards would have to be completely changed.
Because we cannot live without friction, it is important to explore how
friction affects motion. The force of friction between two surfaces is
caused by microscopic high points between two materials bonding together.
Friction always acts in the opposite direction of any applied force.
Sir Isaac Newton's observations were key to our understanding of motion!

ASSESSMENT: Can the student communicate
what they observed?
Student is able to communicate how friction is always present in our
lives and how it relates to Newton's First Law of Motion.
