Swing and Jump
WHY?

In this experiment, the children experienced part of Newton's First Law of Motion. Once the child was moving forward their inertia made it hard to stop. This part of Newton's Law states that objects that are moving tend to keep moving unless acted upon by an outside force. This is called inertia.

ASSESSMENT: Can the student communicate what they observed?

4 The student is able to communicate that it was hard to stand still because objects in motion tend to continue moving. The student is able to identify this as inertia.

3 The student is able to communicate that it was hard to stand still because they were swinging high.

2 The student is able to communicate that it was hard to stand still after they jumped off the swing.

1 The student is able to communicate that they jumped off the swing and kept going.
