Swing and Jump

MATERIALS NEEDED:

Playground swing

STEPS TO FOLLOW:

Talk with the children about inertia in simple terms.

Talk with the children about safety and that they cannot swing too high and jump off the swing safely. Recommended: have the teacher standing right by the swing when doing this experiment.

Have each child take a turn and sit on the swing and start swinging gently and not too high.

Next have the student jump off mid-swing and stand still. (When you jump off the swing you cannot stand still. You have to run forward or you fall down.)
