STEPS TO FOLLOW:

one Discuss with the students the material under the Teacher Text and the Overview. Make sure that the students have at least some understanding of the concept of the center of gravity.

two Decide if you want the students to do this experiment in groups of 2 or 3 and have enough materials for each group.

three Proceed, after you divide the class into groups, to do the experiment. The following steps to be followed: space the rubber bands evenly around the lid, stick the marbles to the inside edge of the lid with clay (this is the wheel), fold the cardboard to make a ramp and place the wheel at the bottom of the ramp, and then release the wheel - it rolls up the ramp and stops near the top.

four Make sure that each student has a turn placing the wheel at the bottom of the cardboard and seeing it go up the cardboard by itself.

five Ask the students to write a short paper on why the wheel is able to go up the cardboard on its own.
