Failure: The Good and the Bad

SCIENCE CONCEPT:
History keeps the record of how man unraveled the mysteries of natural flight and the forces on Earth that make mechanical flight possible.
STUDENT OBJECTIVE:
The student will be able to write or draw about pioneers throughout the history of flight who failed in their inventions but eventually became successful.
OVERVIEW:
The student will demonstrate an understanding of history of flight. By drawing or writing about successes and failures throughout this history of flight, students can see that pioneers in the history of flight were persistent and solved many problems through trial and error to be successful.
PREPARATION TIME:
20 minutes .
LESSON TIME:
20 minutes.
TEACHER PREP:
Print off K8AIT Web pages from the History chapter or select biographies of famous pioneers in flight.
TEACHER TEXT:
From the beginning of history we have been fascinated by flight. Aeronautics, the science of flight, is based on precise mathematical principles. Aeronautics took many centuries to develop. Throughout this period there was an accumulation of knowledge. Individuals persisted in attaining their dream of flight by studying the flyers in nature and by persistent hard work in modeling these natural flyers.
