Parts of a Dragonfly

MATERIALS NEEDED:

scissors

long balloon (3 in.)

flour & water paste (or wallpaper paste)

3 pipe cleaners

newspaper (small strips, approx. 4x 1 1/2")

paint

stiff netting

googlie eyes

2 pieces of string (approx. 4" lengths)

STEPS TO FOLLOW:

one Blow up balloon and knot the end. Don't blow it up too much.

two Twist it in 2 places to form the head and thorax.

three Tie the 2 twisted places with string.

four Cover the balloon with paper-mache. Cover with three layers of newspaper strips. Dry and paint.

five Shape and cut wings. Glue onto thorax.

six Poke pipe cleaners into the side of thorax. ( 3 whole pipe cleaners for 6 legs).

seven Glue googlie eyes on.

eight Now ask: Can you name all the parts of the dragonfly? How do his wings work?
