Discuss together as a class the form and functions of the various
parts of the dolphins and whales. The library books and information from
the Teacher Text in this lesson plan will give guidance about the facts
of the dolphins and whales.
Hand out the chart form paper to each student.
Have the students label across the top of the chart from left to
right: Part, Form, and Function.
Have the students label down the chart on the left hand side: Mouth,
Body, Tail and Coloration. The top left hand side of the chart will
already be labeled Part.
| |
Have the students in the Form column draw pictures of the mouth, body,
tail and coloration of the dolphins and whales in the appropriate boxes.
Tell the students that they can use their 'creative license' in drawing
the parts.
Have the students in the Function column describe how the parts of the
dolphins and whales function. Ask them to use short phrases to describe
the functions of the parts of the dolphins and whales. Not all
information has to be included; just the highlights.
Place finished work on a bulletin board in the classroom for the
students and parents to admire the work.
