WHY?
|
|
-
As the balloon deflates, it forces air out of the neck of the
balloon. The air produces a reaction force that pushes the balloon
forward. Jet and rocket engines work in a similar way. They heat air or
gas and force it from the exhaust so that the reaction pushes the engine
forward. As you know, many of the basic laws and principles of physics
are several hundred years old. Most modern scientific discoveries are
based on them, making these laws as relevant today as they were centuries
ago.

ASSESSMENT: Can the student communicate
what they observed?
|
 |
|
|
Student is able to communicate the component parts of the experiment
of the balloon jet and how it relates to Newton's Third Law of Motion.
Student is also able to give a second illustration in their everyday
lives that relates Newton's Third Law of Motion as well (in this way you
can assess if the student really understands the concept and is not
mimicking information).
