Breaking the Water Barrier
WHY? question_guy
In 1956 Carlo Rodriguez, head of Sicily's largest shipyard, had hydrofoils built. Each one carries 75 passengers. Rodriguez launched hourly service between Sicily and Italy. In four years over a million people have traveled by hydrofoil - the flying ship has proved itself safe, speedy, and profitable vehicle. There are basically two types of hydrofoils: surface piercing and submerged. Surface piercing foils are usually shaped like a V, with the upper part riding above the surface and the lower part below. The fully submerged foil was designed to limit vertical acceleration as well as pitch and roll.

four Student is able to communicate how Bernoulli's Principle applies to the structure of the hydrofoil, causing it to have certain advantages that a conventional ship does not have.

three Student is able to communicate most of the information of how Bernoulli's Principle applies to the structure of the hydrofoil, causing it to have certain advantages that a conventional ship does not have.

two Student is able to communicate some of the information of how Bernoulli's Principle applies to the structure of the hydrofoil, causing it to have certain advantages that a conventional ship does not have.

one Student is able to communicate one of the reasons about how Bernoulli's Principle applies to the structure of the hydrofoil, causing it to have certain advantages that a conventional ship does not have.
