Talk with the students about the "angle of attack" on the tennis
court, reading through the Teacher
Text with them. Discuss the definitions with the students so that they
understand what down-the-line and crosscourt mean.
Proceed to the tennis court where each student will have 10 turns to
hit the ball down-the-line and crosscourt. Have the student hit the ball
underhand and overhand to see how the way the ball is hit also affects
the "angle of attack".
After each student has had their turn, take time to process the
information they acquired during their turn. Discuss their findings.
Then ask for 5 volunteers to hit the ball and volunteers to video
tape them hitting the ball. Return to the classroom and view the tape.
Discuss the information that the students observed with the taping.
Ask the students to write a one page essay on the information that
they have observed during their time on the court and with the viewing of
the video taping.
Have the students read their essays to the rest of the class.
