WHY? In understanding the geometric shapes that make up a tennis court a student will see how mathematics impacts the arena of sports. For the older student seeing the dimensions of the court helps in their perceptions of depth, dimension, scope, and trajectories of the tennis ball within the confines of these geometric shapes that make up the tennis court. ASSESSMENT: Can the student communicate what they observed?

Student is able to communicate how the structure of the tennis court emphasizes the geometric shapes of mathematics and impacts the trajectory of a ball when hit by the racket. (For the Advanced student) Student is able to communicate most of the reasons of how the structure of the tennis court emphasizes the geometric shapes of mathematics and impacts the trajectory of a ball when hit by the racket. (For the Advanced and Intermediate student). Student is able to communicate some of the reasons of how the geometric shapes on the court impacts the path a ball takes when hit by the racket. (For the Intermediate student). Student is able to communicate that the tennis court is made up of geometric shapes. Some may be able to determine that when a tennis ball is hit on various types of courts the ball acts differently. (For Beginner Student).
