Show the various types of kites that you bring in to your class.
Discuss the different elements that make up each kite: their
similarities and differences.
|
|
Go over the material in the Teacher's Text. Edit it in your
vocabulary usage to the age level of your group, but include the
essentials of how a kite flies and how they are made.
|
|
As a class choose the materials that you will use to make your kites.
Encourage making different types of kites if feasible. This will expand
the learning perimeters when you fly the kites because different kites
respond in different ways when in flight. Keep in mind the abilities of
your students when deciding on the types of kites you will make.

|
After completing the kites go outside to a "safe area" (which is
described in the Teacher's Text) and enjoy flying the kites. Have the
students observe the ways different types of kites respond to the wind
and discuss these observations when you return to the classroom.
|
|
Encourage your students to make other types of kites at home with
their families.
