Procedure # 1 - Design your own flying craft

Supplies:

Box of junk including (but not limited to):

straws

scissors

popsicle sticks

paper clips

index cards

string

empty thread spool

Styrofoam trays

empty toilet paper rolls

plastic milk jug

paper

aluminum foil

soft drink lid

tape

rubber bands

toothpicks

glue

balsa wood scraps

Procedure:

1. Break into groups and create one flying craft per group.
2. After a fixed time, get back together and have each group explain the features of their craft and why they think it is the best, then have a flying demonstration to determine which design performed best.

Additional Procedure:

Have a paper plane contest for best control, accuracy, time aloft, etc.

Which craft worked best and why? [This will vary depending on the quality of construction, aerodynamic shape and weight of the vessel.]
