Procedure #2 - Build a Bridge

Supplies (per team):

paper and pencil

straws

toothpicks

tape

scissors

2 litre bottle filled with water (about 5 lbs.) for testing the bridge.

Procedure:

1. Students must construct a bridge using only the listed materials.
2. The bridge needs to be long enough to span the distance (use text books, desks, or tables to create the space to be spanned) and strong enough to hold the weight.
3. Allow ample time to design and construct the structure. (Allow 10 minutes to plan, 20 minutes to build, 10 minutes to test, or 40 minutes total)
4. Have teams test their structures.
