Warm Versus Cold Tennis Ball Experiment
A few people have written to us and said that their goal was to determine which equipment was better? Sometimes it's really obvious what "better" means; sometimes it's not very clear. What does better ball, better racquet, better strings really mean? For a ball does it mean bounces higher, go farther, or plays longer without damage? How do you measure "better"? Scientists and engineers conduct studies by observing and measuring responses. (In fact the American Sign Language for an engineer literally means "a person who measures".) They need to be able to repeat their experiments and obtain the same results each time - your experiment needs to be repeatable. Keep this in mind as you write up your questions and set up your experiment.
