Tennis How Did Our Research Project Develop?

prev next

Research projects can begin in many ways, but almost always they are driven by the curiosity of the team members about a particularly subject, their desire to know something new, and their ingenuity in finding ways to pursue those questions. The history of our project shows this!

If you are really interested in finding something out, curiosity and persistence can make it possible! The worldwide web is making it possible for you to understand and follow our project. But it was the web itself that led to the meeting of key team members in the Aerodynamics in Sports project and the development of the research you are following here!

Principal Investigator Jani Macari Pallis first met Co-investigator John Yandell after he searched the web for information on how sports balls fly and found the K-8 Aeronautics Internet Textbook, a cooperative agreement between NASA and Cislunar Aerospace, Inc. The project as you are following it evolved from their efforts to determine what was known and what could be known about the flight of the tennis ball. Who knows maybe our project will inspire you to pursue your own research project and to use the web and other resources to find out more about a topic that interests you in tennis, sports, or any area!
